Best Voice Recorder app for Iphone/IOS:
Audioshare
Audioshare is a paid IOS app available on the Apple app store. There are free applications like Voice Memos etc that you can use to do a similar thing but Audioshare is quite a professional piece of kit. Its designed with musicians in mind but works equally well for dictation.
You have a clear and easy-to-use system for monitoring levels and the ability to add limited trimming and customization options. File support is excellent, and the organizational folder system helps keep everything you record in order.
Best Voice Recorder app for Android
Dolby On
Dolby On is a relatively new voice recorder application you can download on the Play Store for your android device. The reason we recommend it is due to the simplicity of its user interface being combined with intelligent features to help enhance voice notes and presentations.
It doesn’t stop there, however because there are a few filters as well as boost and fade options that can be used with the app to enhance the sound for musicians. While it is not a substitute for an accurate recorder or DAW application it does give you a wide range of options to improve your performance.
Finally, they also include a decent editing suite to allow you to make adjustments after the recording has been saved.
How to turn your smartphone into a voice recorder:
By using one of the apps listed above you are well on your way to making your smartphone into a dedicated voice and audio recorder. However, to really get professional-level results, you will want to use one of the microphones below. Both the Shure and Rhode options are available with USB-C and Lightning connectors, so be sure to choose correctly at checkout.
How good are smartphone microphones at capturing audio? Well, these are best suited for streaming, note-taking, and of course, podcasts. In regards to podcasts, we have seen both these models used on some of the most popular shows, including Logan Pauls’s Impulsive Podcast, and I don’t think I would have noticed the difference between the studio setup they use and this portable option.
Best Microphone for iPhone or IOS devices
Shure MV88
This is the microphone I use to record audio for my youtube videos, and when set up correctly with the included app, it’s very easy to use and creates clean and clear sound with a low floor noise. The recording quality is very high and the included pop filter makes it work well for near-field voice recording.
The only downside I can mention is that the base of the unit is wide and, therefore won’t work with a case installed. Other than that, the sound tested side by side with the Rhode model listed below is marginally better, which to me justifies the increased cost.
